How to Repair Bifold Door Bottom Pivots
If your bifold closet doors are sliding or scraping the floor it's most likely due to a misalignment. A few minor adjustments can get them back on track.
This bottom pivot is mounted to the bracket's base or floor for an extremely secure, sturdy mounting. With a threaded adjustment, this kit is compatible with a broad range of bi-fold doors.
Broken or cracked Anchor or Pivot Pins
The pivot pins and anchor pins on bifold doors often break or are misaligned which can cause the doors slide down, scratch the floor, or pop out of their brackets. There are three simple adjustments you can make to get your bifolds functioning again.
Check the bottom pin in case you notice that your bifolds do not roll smoothly. If it's loose you can remove it using pliers, or a screwdriver and replace it. If the original pin isn't big enough to fit the new one make a hole to accommodate the new pin.
In the same way, if the pivot pins are cracked, you can fix the issue by using Bondo or Durham's wood filler to repair the crack. Make sure to moisten the glue and let the glue dry prior to moving the door.

It's also an excellent idea to check the other pivots on your bifold doors to make sure they aren't damaged or loose. It's time to fix any of these issues:
If the anchor pin is damaged or broken You can replace it with a piece piano wire or sewing needle. Be sure to use a tapered end so it's easier to insert the pin and secure the anchor. Tape the ends of the pin to make it more robust and smoother. If you're having trouble getting the new pin into place, try gently tapping it in with a mallet made of rubber. This will ensure that the pin remains in place and can carry the weight of the door without slipping or breaking.
Damaged Roller
If your bifold doors scratch on the floor, it could be due to an issue with the roller. Alternatively, it might be caused by a track that has become curved or bent over time. In some instances, the issue may be more serious and require the installation of a new track.
It is crucial to address the issue as soon as you discover that your bifold door's bottom hinge is sagging. This can cause the door to shift out of alignment with the frame which can make it difficult to open and close. The good news is that there are a few simple tricks you can employ to fix this.
In many cases the wood the anchors at the top and bottom and pivot pins sit in may crack over time. If the crack is not too large, you can use glue and secure the piece together. If the crack is larger or has splits then you'll require replacing the piece.
You can also test if the top track and brackets are misaligned by closing the doors to your closet. If the doors aren't aligned with the frame, you may need to loosen the screw that sets the top bracket slightly and then adjust it. Repeat this procedure until the doors are completely aligned. This shouldn't take more than just a few minutes.
Broken Track
Over time, your bifold door tracks and runners may wear out, change, or move. This can cause your bifold doors to be incorrectly aligned or even damaged. This can be a hassle particularly if your bifold door isn't shut properly. It can also reduce the security of your home. If you are aware of what to look for and how to fix it, this problem can be resolved fairly quickly.
Firstly, you should check for any debris that may be present in your running tracks and eliminate the debris. Alternatively, you can clean the track, and then apply lubrication, which will help to smooth things out. If the problem persists, you should try tightening up or loosening the screw on the top of the set to get the tracks back into alignment.
Another issue that is common to bifold doors is that they begin to sag and scrape the floor. This can be a major problem and can be caused by a variety of causes, including overuse or improper installation. There are usually some simple adjustments that can be made in order to get the doors back to their proper position.
It's important to note that this problem isn't just restricted to bifold doors. french doors, composite doors and uPVC front doors can all fall off their tracks. It's usually because hinge bolts or fixings haven't been properly fitted.
The pivot at the bottom can also break. This is common in older bifold doors. It could occur if they're not used regularly or are being treated badly. The most likely problem here is that the plastic or nylon cap which is used to hold the pivot pin has a split or crack within it, and this has begun to fall off from its pivot pin.
This is a fairly easy fix, but it'll require a good amount of patience and a lot of care to complete. You'll have to replace the plastic or nylon cap, and the metal pivot pin. You'll also have to replace the bottom bracket with a new one and then carefully re-fit it to the rail.
Doors that aren't aligned
A bifolding door is a stylish addition to any home. However, over time, it can develop problems which can hinder its ability to open or close. Fortunately, many of these issues are relatively simple to address and do not require a call to an expert.
The first step is to determine the cause of your doors being out of alignment. You'll need an instrument to measure the gap between the track of the door and the track. If the gap between the door and the track is greater on the top than the bottom, your doors aren't aligned. This can be fixed by loosening the screw and moving it on the pivot bracket to a different notch.
You may have to replace your pivot anchors or pins if you still have doors that are not aligned. They are typically made of wood and may wear out over time. To replace them, you'll need to remove the door and detach the pin that was damaged from the wood with pliers or a flathead screwdriver. You will then need to remove the pin that is damaged and then make a new hole for it. If necessary, you will need to trim away the wood where the pin was damaged.
After replacing the pin, attach it to the door and mount it in its brackets. If the door still does not sit correctly you can try shimming it by adding more wood or plastic. Be aware that if your door is badly out of alignment, it might be simpler to replace it rather than shhim it.
If bi fold door repair make an eerie sound when they are opened, this can typically be due to debris getting stuck in the running tracks. To stop this from happening you'll need to take out the obstructions that are blocking the tracks and then lubricate them again. If the rattling originates inside the door, the hinges or mechanisms have to be replaced. You should only rely on an established company to install your new doors.
